Job Description - Job Type (Full-time)

The Business Analyst will identify and develop the conceptual solution and business requirements for an E&P subsurface data management program.  This includes facilitating customer meetings to identify key data management activities and quality indicators.  The Business Analyst will capture and formalize this information and develop the priorities, groupings, and alignments to create a roadmap of projects. Once the roadmap as been socialized and approved, the Business Analyst will assist in formalizing the details related to data solutions as to project designs, business rules, & functional requirements.  As part of a collaborative team, the Business Analyst is responsible for the successful delivery of a solution that meets customer requirements and supports the overall scope and scalability identified in the subsurface data management strategy.   This individual must have strong interpersonal skills to facilitate: requirements gathering, quality reviews, deliverable approvals, and project/program decisions with key stakeholders & project teams.  As a trusted team member, the Business Analyst will often be the bridge between E&P business community and IT professionals. This individual must have a proven track record of successful project delivery in a multi-disciplinary team environment with increasing responsibility over time. 

Skills & Responsibilities:

Effective Business Analysts must have demonstrated the following:

  • 10 – 25 years applying technology to solve business problems in the Geoscience and Engineering data and application domain.
  • Expert level technical knowledge in both the business of exploration & development of oil and gas plays and the information systems (data and applications required to support that business) with a foot in each camp.
  • Business workflow expert with in-depth understanding of Geoscience Data and Applications (e.g. OpenWorks, GeoFrame, Petrel, Paradigm, Petra, Petrosys, etc.).
  • Business workflow expert with in-depth understanding of Reservoir and Production Engineering data and applications (e.g. Merak suite, KAPPA suite, PETEX suite, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Well Operations applications (e.g. WellView, OpenWells, etc.) 
  • Skilled relationship manager with IT and business professionals and their corresponding managers.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Geoscience technical information, both structured and unstructured data; deep knowledge of what the data is used for, data formats, GIS solutions, corporate data management solutions, public data sources. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of and experience with industry standards such as PPDM, Energistics, PODS, etc.
  • Excellent reputation in industry, network of peers across the globe. International experience is a plus.
  • Capturing and refining the ‘as is’ and ‘to be’ business processes, especially as they pertain to Information Management and Program Delivery
  • Strong leadership skills, ‘big picture’ thinker, talented facilitator of workflow discussions, skilled in all facets of communication and organizational change management, demonstrated expert skills leading large Geoscience systems & data projects.
  • Experience with data modeling is preferred, but not required

Project Communication:

  • Conduct & facilitate business requirement and quality reviews
  • Review user adoption of deliverables and acceptance testing
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately

Industry Expertise:

In addition to the upstream oil & gas knowledge identified above, this individual must have exposure to and experience with Information Management methodologies and technologies, including:

  • Large Scale Data Delivery (BI) & Data Warehouse
  • Master Data Management
  • Metadata Management
  • Information Quality
  • Information Governance and Stewardship
  • This individual must have worked at all levels of technical delivery including development, testing, design, and architecture.
  • Experience with any data delivery tool is preferable.

Education:

BA or BS is required for this position.  A degree in an Energy discipline (e.g. Geology, Geophysics, or Petroleum Engineering) is preferred.
